The criteria for applying to sponsor parents and grandparents include:
Eligibility: Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply to sponsor their parents or grandparents if they are above 18 years of age and in Canada.
Finances: As a sponsor, you must have sufficient funds to support your dependent family members and the members you wish to sponsor. You will need to provide your Notice of Assessments for the past three years from the date of submission. The income required is subject to change every year and is also dependent on the number of individuals you are financially responsible for. A spouse or a common-law partner may co-sign your application to meet financial requirements and will be required to submit other relevant documents as well.
Exclusions: Citizens and PR holders residing outside Canada cannot apply for sponsorship under the PGP Program. Temporary residents and individuals with permanent residence applications in the process are not eligible to apply under this program.
